Baisakhi, also known as Vaisakhi, is an important festival for Sikhs and Hindus, which is celebrated every year on the 13th or 14th of April. This year, it will be observed on Friday, April 14, 2023. It marks the start of the Sikh New Year and commemorates the establishment of the Khalsa, the holy brotherhood of the Sikhs, by Guru Gobind Singh in 1699. On this day, people visit Gurdwaras, take part in prayer meetings, and perform Kirtan, a form of devotional music. In addition to religious celebrations, Baisakhi is also a time of joy and celebration, marked by the traditional folk dance called Bhangra and the sweet drink called ‘lassi’.
